Where Did Benson Boone Grow Up?
Benson Boone grew up in Monroe, a suburb of Seattle. His parents are Nate and Kerry Boone. He has four sisters, which makes him one of five siblings.
At Monroe High School he joined the diving team and the tennis team. That background may explain the athletic flips he does today. He was also thinking about college and not a music career when his videos started to spread.
How Did Benson Boone Become Famous?
Boone became famous through short videos and a brief run on American Idol in 2021. A friend told him to post singing clips online. The clips caught on, and the show invited him to audition.
He sang “Punchline” by Aidan Martin and won a yes from all three judges. Katy Perry told him she could see him winning. He reached the Top 24 and then withdrew from the competition on his own.
That choice looks smart now. Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons signed him to Night Street Records. He released “Ghost Town” in 2021 and “In the Stars” in 2022.
The Breakout Year
The big jump came in 2024. “Beautiful Things” arrived in January and spread fast across streaming apps and social feeds. It spent seven weeks at the top of the global chart and reached number two on the US Hot 100.
Fans connected with its raw, honest lyrics. His strong voice and huge high notes did the rest.

His music sits in pop and pop rock. Expect big choruses, piano and guitar, and a voice that climbs very high. Many songs deal with love, loss and fear of losing someone.

Why Does Benson Boone Do Backflips on Stage?
Benson Boone does backflips because they have become his signature live move. He mixes them with powerful vocals, so a concert feels part pop show and part circus act. His diving history likely helps.
Fans now expect at least one flip per show. It also makes his clips easy to share. A single flip can reach millions of viewers.
The stunts carry some risk, so he trains for them. Still, the flips are only half the story. Without the vocals, they would just be tricks.
What Awards Has Benson Boone Won?
Benson Boone has won two Billboard Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award and the BMI Champion Award. He also earned a Best New Artist nomination at the 67th Grammy Awards. He performed “Beautiful Things” at that ceremony.

- Playing the Coachella main stage in April 2025
- Bringing out Queen guitarist Brian May for “Bohemian Rhapsody”
- Reuniting with May at the London and Birmingham shows of his American Heart Tour
